01 Jan A bridge between the two Expo events in a medal

Towards the end of Expo Milano 2015, we are already thinking of the Universal Exposition of 2020 to be held in Dubai. In order to connect and provide continuity to these two grand events, a symbolical bridge engraved on a medal was conceived to cross the time span and connect the two Expo events. The idea was conceived by Sandro Sassoli, founder of the Museum of Time and coordinator of the coin and medal programme for Expo Milano 2015.

It is a “metal bridge” engraved on a medal that will represent the official coinage of Dubai 2020.

“The purpose,” says Sassoli, “is to carve in metal an indelible memory of the values of a great event.”

The students of the most important art schools and universities of Dubai will collaborate to ensure the success of this project, who, thanks to a competition, will have to make a sketch of an ideal bridge connecting the two universal expositions. In addition, Laura Cretara, author of a verse of the official coinage of Expo Milano 2015, as well as of the Italian Euro, will help to interpret the theme of the next Universal Exposition, designing the silhouette of two faces that overlap.
