26 Jan Dubai to rely on green economy

Only photovoltaic roofs. This is the ambitious goal that Dubai has set for itself with a future-oriented approach. A few days ago, the UAE presented “Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050”. The project involves: photovoltaic roofs, loans and subsidies for those investing in renewable energy sources and a “green zone” dedicated to innovation and development.

Dubai therefore plans to rely entirely on green economy. This is certainly a brilliant move, since there is plenty of sun in the UAE. The goal is to achieve 75% clean energy by 2050 and to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. “Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050” has two intermediate goals: reaching 7% renewable energy sources by 2020 and 25% by 2030. Moreover, in 2030, photovoltaic roofs will become compulsory. The solar roof project will require billions of euros to be invested, however, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Governor of Dubai, is optimistic about its success.

This project will be implemented together with the Dubai Green Zone. The zone will be created to attract research and development centres and emerging companies in the field of clean energy. Other highlights of the “Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050” will be the creation of a “green fund” worth more than 27 billion dollars to grant “soft loans” to those who wish to invest in the field of clean energy.
